Kovach will serve Delaware well in D.C.

With the election upon us I wanted to take a moment to say a few words about my husband and our candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, Tom Kovach.

When I first met Tom, he was competing hard on the soccer field, with a team that he has now played with for more than 20 years. At that time, Tom was a student at the University of Delaware working on two degrees, chemical engineering and psychology. I knew from the beginning that he was one of the hardest-working, dedicated and most loyal people I had come across. He is that same person today.

After graduation, Tom took a job with the U.S. EPA in Philadelphia. We married and took an apartment in North Wilmington. We were living a comfortable life, but Tom knew he could do more for his family. Tom followed his passion for advocacy back to school as a full-time law student. At the same time, he encouraged me to follow my passion and earn my education degree. During those years, Tom held two part-time law clerk jobs and delivered papers on weekends to pay our rent.

After graduation, Tom applied his passion to his legal career, where he led the environmental law section in his company for two years. He helped revise Delaware’s Brownfields Redevelopment program, preserved open space, cleaned up old sites, and created new jobs and opportunities. He was enjoying great success in his law career, yet, in December 2008, Tom resigned the law partnership he worked so hard for to serve his district in the state House. Again, Tom knew he could do more for our state.

After 19 years of marriage, I still see the strengths in Tom which captured my heart so many years ago. Tom is committed to Delaware and wants nothing more than to take his passion and advocacy to Washington, D.C., to represent Delaware’s best interests. The consummate Eagle Scout, he is always prepared and happy to lend a hand and support to friends both old and new, as well as the many community organizations our family has become involved with.

During the hustle bustle of the campaign season, I watched Tom work tirelessly up and down the state meeting as many Delawareans as possible.

Tom is also the wonderful and proud father of our three children. He cherishes every moment with our children and takes them with him often in his community activities, and even on the campaign trail, giving them a firsthand view of public service and Delaware politics. On a sunny weekend or holiday, you may find Tom and the kids on bikes, in the park, or out by a stream. Occasionally, he even sneaks out for Sunday evening soccer with his old team. I could not be more proud of Tom as a husband, father, friend and representative for our wonderful state of Delaware. I will be voting for Tom Kovach for U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 6. I urge you to do the same.
